Some recent comments from previous guests about Thala , Australia

Guestbook

We discovered Thala Beach for our 15th anniversary. Staff were fantastic. Nothing was too much trouble. Our Eucalypt cabin had water glimpses and was nestled in the trees. We enjoyed both beaches & several of the guided tours on the resort including beach walk, bird spotting & star gazing. Heard people talking about how good coconut tour is but we went to Daintree that day. Evening meals in restaurant were very good and we loved to see use of local and organic produce when possible. Views at breakfast made it hard to go home! Our stay was 7 days of complete relaxation. Dinner & shopping a few times in Port Douglas using the shuttle service. Also enjoyed a lovely sunset sail from there too. A year on and photos of Thala Beach holiday still listed in our screen saver files. We will be back to visit this very special place.

We loved our stay here and even went back because we wanted more time there. We dove the reef every day of our stay and it is convenient and much more beautiful than staying in Port Douglas (it’s just outside). Thala is very calm and romantic and quiet and beautiful – just our kind of place, and the staff was extremely friendly and helpful. We will definitely go back again, hopefully many times!

The staff were excellent: uniformly courteous, friendly, and always ready to help. Our Coral Sea bungalow (number 38) was very near the large pool and the main lodge, with a lovely view out over the ocean. Most of the cabins (including ours) have walk-up access (not stairs), with the land sloping out from under them so that the back balcony is higher off the ground. The cabin itself was well appointed, airy, and very clean, and the bed was quite comfortable. The air conditioning worked well, and having our own separate cabin was quite romantic. The beach was beautiful, and there was almost no one else there. The hammocks are a nice touch! The walk around the point, possible only at low tide, was also beautiful, but do not try it without reef shoes or sandals with a rear strap (lots of clambering over rocks)! The restaurant has beautiful views, with an open-air setting where we watched the geckoes. The food was very good, though the breakfast selections were unusual for us Americans. The main pool was among the prettiest I’ve seen, with waterfalls and four levels including a cave!

I stayed here for 2 nights and wish it could have been longer. The bungalows are lovely and the little walks around the property very pretty. The food was great as was the wine list. I had a snack of Chilli squid when I arrived (best I have ever tasted). The staff were all lovely and despite being v busy remained calm and with a big smile. I did a tour while there and the tour centre was v helpful even organising my onward transfer and storing of luggage while I did the boat trip. The little tours that they have on site (as part of the rate) are well worth the effort. The coconut tour (Carl) was insightful and the nocturnal walk with Clay fab – I am a city girl and found it fascinating seeing and hearing all the animals, birds and insects (my favourite was the white chested big green frog).

My wife and I left the kids with Grandma and wanted an indulgent night to ourselves – so off we went ot Thala! It was a wonderful experience and the only thing that we were left wanting was that we could have stayed longer! The work over the years by the owners to create an environmental wonderland is very obvious. The accomodation and facilities are of a very high standard and yet have a low impact environmentally. We loved the walking tracks, the pools, the trees, the seclusion and the views! Most of all though we valued the service from the staff – they were unimposing and yet ever-so quick to meet our every need, with a smile. We would thrououghly recommend Thala to others!

I have just read that Thala was voted top in the 2008 Trip Advisors Readers Choice award* ahead of any other Australian property and having stayed there two weeks ago I can totally understand why they deserve it.
We were so impressed – not just by the place but by the staff who were exceptional in every aspect. We finally figured it out : happy staff = happy guests and vice versa! And what’s not to be happy about at this place – it is SO wonderfully Australian : on the Great Barrier Reef/directly overlooking the beach/exceptional local produce and cuisine plus great private and comfy accom.
A very deserving accolade for a great experience, thanks Thala.
* Voted No. 2 in Best Luxury Retreats in the Pacific region, and No. 32 in Best Luxury Retreats in the Worldwide category.

I have never been to a more beautiful or amazing place like Thala. The views, food, rooms and service give Thala their well deserved excellent rating. The friendliness and smiles of the amazing staff made our stay by far the best place to spend any time. Be sure to stay more than one night though to fully experience the many wonderful services Thala has to offer.
If I was to ever get married I would happily return to Thala.

The drive from Cairns airport to Thala Beach Lodge was beautiful enough but the actual setting of the property and the view you are afforded when you first arrive are breathtaking. My wife and I are not sure when we will be able to return to Australia but no matter when Thala Beach will be on our itinerary.
The staff was really helpful in helping us get the most our of the local area. The room was great, food delicious and the staff excellent.
If you go anywhere near northern Queensland on a trip to Australia, Thala Beach Lodge is THE place to stay.
