As the main Commonwealth Games events get underway on the Gold Coast from 4 April, Cairns is playing host to an exciting program of Commonwealth Games action. The host venue for preliminary rounds of basketball from 5 – 10 April, the Cairns Esplanade Live Site will host Festival 2018. From the opening ceremony from 3 April, the Cairns Esplanade is your go to destination for 12 days of sports, fun and entertainment while showcasing local music, art and culture.
The main attraction will be the the big screens streaming the Commonwealth Games on the eastern side of the Lagoon, allowing everyone to experience the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games action live and free.
Cairns Mayor Bob Manning said that locals and visitors could all look forward to seeing what the city of Cairns had to offer during this exciting time in Queensland.
‘Restaurants will be extending their dining areas out towards the waterfront to create a really special atmosphere and some will be setting up food stalls for takeaway options,’ he said.
